Uhuru, Ruto Fight on Drug Business Insincere - Joho Says

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has launched a scathing attack at President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto claiming that the government's war against drugs at the Coast was insincere.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, an agitated Joho alleged that Uhuru and his deputy were trying to intimidate him ahead of the August 8 Election.

Joho firmly stated that he is not a drug dealer questioning why the Jubilee administration was tackling the matter during an election year.

"Jubilee should first clear their house before coming here to talk about drugs. This is just for campaigning and nothing else.

"I am not aware that I am being probed for drugs... the narrative that I am a drug dealer was peddled in 2013 to deny me a chance to vie. We are seeing the same narrative being driven now. I am telling you I will be on the ballot," the Mombasa Governor affirmed.

Joho warned Uhuru and Ruto to stop portraying Mombasa in bad light claiming that they were exaggerating on the number of addicts in the country.

The Mombasa Governor urged the ruling coalition to fight the illicit trade objectively but not politicise or target specific politicians on the matter.

Joho’s sentiments come after Ruto, on Monday during his tour in Coast region, said that "the end had come" for ndividuals engaging in the drugs business.

On his part, President Kenyatta warned that drug barons would be eliminated in the region, citing the case of the Akasha brothers who were extradited to face drug trafficking charges in the US.
