Uhuru, Ruto Salaries to be Increased From July

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are set to enjoy a pay increase from July.

According to figures from the National Treasury, the two will get an annual increase of 10 percent despite previously promising to take a pay cut to reduce the country's wage bill.

President Kenyatta and Ruto will now take home a combined pay of Sh40.2 Million up from the current Sh36.6 in the 2017/18 financial year.

Regulations from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) place the President's salary at a maximum of Sh1.65 Million while his deputy is entitled to up to Sh1.4 Million monthly pay.

The new rise, which will be implemented in the next financial year will, however, only apply if Kenyatta and Ruto are re-elected back into office.

In case other individuals take over the leadership of the country in the August 8 General Election, the new office holder will take home the lower pay in accordance with SRC regulations.

The government has also set aside Sh100 Billion in the budget proposal, which was approved by the Cabinet, to increase salaries for civil servants.
