Uhuru to Visit Tharaka Nithi After Protests Over Headquater

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to visit Kathwana town in Tharaka Nithi County following recent protests caused by utterances of his deputy William Ruto.

According to area Governor Samuel Ragwa, the Head of State would be touring the region in the next one week to calm down the nerves of residents who were irked by the DP .

Last week, residents went up in arms protesting against Ruto's words which seemingly implied that Chuka town was the County headquarters instead of Kathwana, where the governor had already shifted instruments of power.

Addressing a meeting on Saturday, Ragwa disclosed that Kenyatta's tour of the vote-rich county is meant to stamp Kathwana as the recognised headquarters for the county.

He further divulged that the Head of State would visit the site of an ongoing construction of Sh362 Million headquarters and commission refurbishment of the market.

“He will be visiting Kathwana to stamp his political authority and clarify that the market is the county headquarters,” he stated.

During the protests, demonstrators blocked roads while waving pro-Raila Odinga placards and complained of being sidelined by the government threatening to support the Opposition in the upcoming polls.

They demanded that Ruto clarifies his statement and all facilities established in Chuka town be moved to Kathwana, since it was the town acknowledged in the County Governments (Amendment) Act signed by President Kenyatta.

After the unexpected support, reports indicate that Mr Odinga was also planning to visit the Jubilee stronghold to woo voters into backing his 2017 Presidential bid.
