Uhuru's Ally David Murathe Says There Will be No 2022 Deal for Ruto if Jubilee Fails in 2017

A close ally to President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to warn Deputy President William Ruto and his team over any political moves that may undermine Jubilee’s win in 2017.

Former Gatanga MP, David Murathe, who is also the interim Vice Chairman of the Jubilee party, stated that Ruto’s team should not be worried about the relationship between the President and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, adding that the effort would ensure Kenyatta’s re-election in 2017.

Murathe added that there would be no 2022 if Jubilee did not win this year’s general election.

“There is no 2022 without 2017,” Murathe stated, becoming the first in Kenyatta’s inner circle to speak on the matter.

He added that it was in the DP’s interest to ensure Kenyatta is re-elected on August 8.

“The DP does not have to wait for 2022 to exercise power. The man is running the government. They run it with the President and, in his absence, he takes charge like we have seen before,” Murathe noted.

There had been reports of friction between the President and the DP over the alleged deal between the Kenyattas and the Mois.

Ruto’s allies have already complained over the deal, even though its details remain scanty.

“We are here by right. If there is any negotiation, it must be in writing and our people must agree to it. It is not an issue of two families (Mois and Kenyattas) sitting down and deciding our fate,” Marakwet East MP and the DP’s ally, Kangongo Bowen stated.
