Uhuru's Team Humiliated Us Badly - Kakamega Leaders

Leaders from Kakamega County, led by Senator Bonny Khalwale were left disgruntled after a trip to the area by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto over the weekend.

The Kakamega Senator noted that he even had to storm out of a rally in Kebabi University, Kimilili, after he failed to be recognised by the Presidential press team during the University's Charter award ceremony.

The Senator together with other leaders in the county, had earlier accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto on a tour in the region, but claimed that they were humiliated throughout.

Senator Khalwale stated that the reason why he left, was because of the “obvious plot” by the press team to "embarrass the Opposition" right in their homeland.

"We have seen this all the way from Lwakhakaha to the stops at Sirisa, Chwele and Mayanja. We have been frustrated a lot and not given time to address residents in the region we command," he said.

He further noted that they had not been assigned seats at the Presidential dias, forcing them to spectate like normal residents.

"Now we have arrived here but have no seats in the presidential dais. All the seats have other leaders' names with none seat for me, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula and Opposition MPs...I have looked at the programme and we have not been listed as speakers so we are to sit here as spectators," said the Senator.

The Senator also said that the Jubilee leaders were afraid of what the Opposition leaders would say in their speeches, regarding Senator Wetangula's voter bribery accusations.

"I know they did not want to feature us in the programme because we want to tell them touching Wetang'ula will be touching the eye of the Mulembe community, bearing in mind that he now commands the entire Western region," said Mr Khalwale.

Mr Khalwale stormed out and failed to attend the remaining programmes including the Presidential dinner at Kakamega State Lodge.
