The Untold Story of Sabina Wanjiru Chege

Little was known about Sabina Wanjiru Chege before she was elected Murang’a Women Representative in 2013 on a TNA Party ticket.

She went ahead to gain more prominence in the public sphere when she was voted chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Research and Technology.

Unknown to many, before Sabina joined politics, she was one of the leading actors and a radio presenter.

The 39-year old Murang'a legislator delved into acting when she cleared her primary education and joined Mugoiri Girls in 1997 – 2000.

She started going for her auditions at the Kenya National Theatre. Her career in acting kicked off when she was given a chance to act on Tausi (a popular programme aired in the 90’s) where she played the role of Rehema - a humble and reserved girl.

She later joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) where she enrolled for a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

While studying at the University, she was employed at Kameme FM as a presenter from 2002-2005, which many argue gave her a chance to understand politics at the grass root levels.

After she graduated in 2005, she left for communications firm World Space Africa, as a regional manager where she worked until 2007 before she moved to KBC as the controller of the commercial radio services.

Sabina would later resign from KBC prior to the 2013 elections to vie for the Muranga Woman Representative seat.

The Women-Rep, who holds a masters degree in communication, will be defending her seat in the upcoming August polls with a majority of people in Muranga said to have been impressed by her work.
