VIDEO: Bats With 'Eyes and Teeth' Invade Kisii

Residents of Kisii County are a worried lot due to a rare occurrence at the County Commissioner's office which has elicited mixed reactions and opinions.

The office has in the recent days been playing host to thousands of bats causing a buzz of numerous theories among the residents.

The bats have camped on trees outside the office with some of the locals giving weird narrations and descriptions about the animals.

“These are not normal bats. They even have teeth and eyes that gaze at you like those of human beings...And if you make an attempt to hit them, they don't fall off the tree,” said Oliver Kipkeu, a resident.

He further added that the flying mammals were creating disturbance by emiting acidic excretions, which cause wounds and rashes whenever they came into contact with the human skin.

However, County Director of Environment, Samson Bokea, dismissed any worries claiming that the birds had invaded the area due to its conducive environment.

“These birds come to Kisii because of the trees which form a good canopy where they rest,” said Bokea.

He further assured residents of their safety claiming that the birds were not known to transmit any diseases, therefore, residents ought to remain calm.

“We have not been told whether they can transmit infectious diseases, so we are happy to see them flying over our sky,” he added.

Bats are rare animals because of their nocturnal nature, as they are dormant during the day and are active at night. Moreover, they could be beneficial to residents as they feed on mosquitoes and plant destroying insects.
