VIDEO: Governor Joho Hits Mombasa Residents Hard

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has faulted Mombasa residents for their habit of job preference - failing to take up opportunities that arise then later blame leaders for not having jobs.

Speaking on Tuesday during President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit in the region, Joho linked the idleness of young people in the City to the rise of insecurity that even saw a tourist mugged while on vacation.

The Governor challenged Mombasa youth to get out of their comfort zone and work, if the glory of the oldest City in Kenya was to be restored.

He went rhetoric in a bid to address the negative culture of youth being selective on the jobs they do. “You want to fly a plane yet you are not a pilot?” Joho asked.

The President also urged the citizens of Mombasa to work with the police to improve security.

“This is not the Mombasa we used to know. We need to bring back the glory of this town by ensuring that security is maintained,” he said.

Kenyatta added that restoring security was the only way tourists would come back resulting to creation of jobs for the youth.

The Cabinet Secretary For Devolution and Planning, Anne Waiguru announced that 1300 young men and women of Mvita Constituency would be recruited to the National Youth Service (NYS) Programme.

Waiguru said that the program is expected to spread to other constituencies.

Insecurity has been on the rise in Mombasa, a trend that is highly attributed to the high level of unemployment in the area.
