In a bid to streamline operations in public schools, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday made a surprise visit to schools in Naivasha where a number of head teachers were caught unaware, with no explanations for the dilapidated state of their institutions.
Matiang'i, who was seeking answers on the use of money allocated to schools, started off in Naivasha High School where the Deputy and the Bursar were not able to account for Sh3.7 Million given to them.
The Education CS was angered by the devastating environment students were exposed to in classrooms, dormitories and kitchen area ordering the management to promptly take action or face consequences.
Another school caught during the surprise visit was Naivasha Girls Secondary where Matiangi and his officers found the administration guilty of hiking fee from the Sh53,000 ceiling stipulated by the Government to Sh72,000.
Matiang'i ordered the school to immediately refund parents the excess money levied.
The CS also stormed Mirera Primary school where the head teacher was on the spot over dirty classrooms despite the school receiving an annual amount of Sh2.7 Million from the Ministry.
Matiang'i sought for answers but the head stammered in his expalanation assuring the CS that he would make the necessary changes.
Last week, a primary school head in Mombasa was demoted after Matiang'i made an impromptu visit and discovered massive mismanagement.
