A wedding was on Sunday disarrayed for almost 12 hours, after police arrested the bride's father just before the ceremony kicked off.
The dramatic incident in Kapenguria West-Pokot County, unfolded after a woman accompanied by police officers emerged accusing the bride's father of failing to honour a Sh6,000 debt that dates back to 1992.
The man was arrested throwing the celebrations into limbo as wedding attendants waited for police to release the bride's father.
Agitated women castigated the woman, a vegetable vendor, for claiming the debt on his daughter's wedding day.
The groom was reportedly forced to wait at a house in the shopping centre, while the bride remained locked in a separate place. Vehicles carrying friends and relatives were also put on hold pending resolution of the dispute.
After hours of deliberations, the man agreed to pay the debt and the celebrations kicked off.
