Waiguru Speaks on Being Nairobi Governor

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has responded to calls urging her to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with women groups from all 17 constituencies in Nairobi, Waiguru admitted to have been considering the idea saying she needed to 'pray and consult first' before announcing her next step.

“I have heard your requests. We are all women and when such things come up it is natural for us to take time off to pray to seek God's guidance. I will take some time to pray and think about it. Allow me to consult and talk to one or two people here and there, then we shall plan another meeting and announce the way forward,” she responded.

Ms Waiguru received backing from former Nairobi County Executive for Environment Evans Ondieki and women who claimed that she was the only strong leader left, after being betrayed by those they had elected in 2013.

“We do not have a strong woman leader since you left the government. All those we elected, like the Nairobi Women Representative, have gone to sleep. You must come out and save us,” they urged.

Despite having previously declared that she was not a politician, the former Minister gave the strongest indication that she would traverse the city to initiate projects for women and the youth.

“I will be visiting several grassroot areas starting with Embakasi South next Sunday so that I continue with the work of assisting the youth and women,” she added.

Ms Waiguru resigned from Cabinet in November amid corruption claims in her Ministry. When asked about her future during a recent television interview, she just replied with: “I don't know. But who knows about the future".
