Why Uhuru Kenyatta Visited Daniel Moi

Details have emerged suggesting that President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday visited retired Head of State Daniel Arap Moi to check on his health condition after undergoing a knee surgery.

On January 27, Moi underwent a surgery at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi to ease the pain on his knee which was confirmed by his spokesman Lee Njiru.

According to a source privy to the meeting, Kenyatta went to check on Moi's progress after the operation and going by the photos capturing their meeting, the former President appeared to be in good health as he was seen laughing with the President.

The two are also said to have heavily talked about politics with regard to Kenyatta's party and the current political situation in the country.

On Thursday, social media went abuzz after the President tweeted a photo of him with Mzee Moi at the former President's Kabarnet Gardens home in Nairobi.

“Paid a courtesy call on Former President Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarnet Gardens residence in Nairobi,” Kenyatta tweeted.

The President was later pictured with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, as he walked out of Mzee Moi's house.

The Kenyatta-Moi families have enjoyed a cordial relationship with Moi being credited for introducing the young Uhuru into national politics.

However, Moi's son Gideon has not been in good terms with Uhuru's deputy William Ruto as both have been fighting to control the vote-rich Rift Valley region.
