Wiper Party Secretary General Hassan Omar Reveals Opposition Will Use WhatsApp in Polls

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has announced a new plan to curb election rigging in the coming August polls.

Speaking at a morning talk show, Wiper Party Secretary General Hassan Omar revealed that NASA would deploy the use of WhatsApp messaging tool to prevent vote rigging.

Omar announced that NASA will have a representative at each polling station across the country and will be required to take photos of all tallied results and send via WhatsApp.

He added that the transmitted photos of the results will then be forwarded to a team running a parallel tallying centre to that of the Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Senator denied any wrongdoing in holding a parallel tallying centre and pointed out that other stakeholders have done it before including media owners.

He highlighted that the strategy is important in keeping tabs of all polling centres in the country to avoid a repeat of the past where tallied results at the stations differed with those announced by electoral commissions.

NASA, led by Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odingahad on Friday the 24th, announced that the Opposition outfit will run a parallel tallying centre to counter any vote rigging planned by the ruling party, Jubilee.

Deputy President William Ruto, however, opposed the plan and called on the Opposition to stop the sideshows after sensing defeat and concentrate on telling the electorate their agenda.

He was addressing a rally in Eldama-Ravine grounds in Baringo County.
