An 80-year-old medic escaped from his home in Gem, Siaya County, after he allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl who had gone for an eye check-up at his private clinic.
Walter Omwake, who owns Walmar Community Eye Clinic at Ulumbi Market in Yala Township, is said to have locked himself in a room with the minor, raping her as the mother waited outside.
According to the girl's mother, she had taken her daughter for an eye check-up when the doctor requested her to leave the room so he could conduct the examination.
The mother said that she began getting worried when the check-up took longer than expected, but decided to wait.
She narrated that it was only later that the girl walked out of the examination room while crying uncontrollably.
Her daughter said that she had been raped by Mr Omwake, but upon questioning the doctor, he denied the allegations.
The matter was reported to the Police and the girl taken to Yala Sub-County Hospital, where it was proven that there was an actual penetration.
The distraught mother further claimed that the doctor attempted to bribe her with Sh250,000 which she declined hoping to seek justice in court.
Gem OCPD Wambua Mutiso affirmed that investigations had been launched to nab the rapist doctor.
This comes after a near similar incident occured in Nairobi, where a fake gynaecologist, Mugo wa Wairimu, hit headlines for allegedly sedating and raping patients at his clinic.
The prosecutors in Mugo's case however, suffered lack of sufficient evidence to charge him with rape. Wairimu was instead charged with running an illegal laboratory among other charges. He was last month released from police custody on a Sh1 Million cash bail.
