Moi, Kibaki to Receive Sh74 Million as Pension in 2017

Former of Heads of State Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi will receive Sh74 Million as pension in 2017.

According to a supplementary budget tabled in parliament last week, the said amount is an increase of 15.6% from Sh64 Million that they received in 2015.

This will see Kibaki and Moi each receive Sh3 Million monthly as part of the benefits they are legally entitled to.

Some of the perks the two are supposed to receive include: fuel allowance Sh247,500, entertainment perks Sh247,500, house allowance Sh379,500 and utilities Sh379,500.

Before leaving office in 2013, Kibaki approved the Presidential Retirement Benefits (Amendment) Act, 2013, allowing every retired Head of State to receive a hefty send-off package among other retirement benefits.

In 2015, the High Court attempted to stop the allowances the two Presidents receive arguing it was too much for the taxpayers but failed in their bid.

This was after the Attorney General Githu Muigai appealed the decision thus Moi and Kibaki have continued to receive the hefty packages.

The two former Presidents are also entitled to bodyguards, drivers and a personal assistant whose salaries are catered for by the taxpayers.
