Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohamed has revealed unknown details of her relationship with former NTV presenter Janet Kanini Ikua who passed on last weekend.
In a statement posted on her Facebook timeline, Mohamed expressed her sorrow over the demise insisting that a week of mourning had not erased her pain and grief.
Ms Mohamed divulged how she met Kanini when she was working at NTV and was immediately struck by her “steady grasp of current national and international affairs”.
She divulged that the two continued to maintain a close relationship adding that she even keenly followed the journalist as she recovered from stage four lung cancer.
“I followed her road to recovery with keen interest. Often watching, listening and reading her reflections on social media for inspiration and a dose of determination especially when things, seemingly insurmountable, threatened my optimism,” she wrote.
In the emotional message, the CS described the journalist as a beckon of hope for patients who have been battling with the cancer menace having temporarily recovered from the disease.
“Janet was not merely a subject of admiration but someone worth emulating. The story of her life is a valuable lesson on the virtues of personal discipline, hard work, generosity and perseverance,” added Mohamed.
Ms Ikua passed away last weekend in an incident that caught many by surprise given that she had announced having fully recovered from cancer.
She will be laid to rest on Saturday.
