Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and Aspirant Wycliffe Wangamati Banned From Campaigning

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has banned Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and his rival Wycliffe Wangamati from campaigning.

The two were found culpable of chaos that erupted last Saturday during the burial of Lusaka's campaign coordinator, who was shot dead two weeks ago.

The electoral body ordered the two to stop campaigning in meetings and rallies in Bungoma or any other part of the country, as well as fined them fined Sh 1 Million.

They had been summoned after two people were seriously injured and property damaged during the burial ceremony in Kimilili.

During the incident, Wangamati's supporters reportedly arrived at the event playing loud music while declaring their support for the National Super Alliance (NASA).

This seemingly angered Lusaka's team and the two groups descended on each other with kicks and blows temporarily disrupting the ceremony.

The leaders later reported the matter to the police with each side blaming the other for the violent confrontation.

Lusaka and the Ford Kenya candidate were appearing before the Commission's Disciplinary Committee for the second time.

In the previous case, the two were fined Sh1 Million each after they were found to be in breach of the Electoral Code of Conduct.

The Governor and his main competitor were found guilty of causing fracas in which one person was killed after their supporters clashed in Bungoma town.
