KTN Reporter Duncan Khaemba Arrested

KTN Senior Political Affairs Reporter Duncan Khaemba has been arrested.

Khaemba was apprehended alongside cameraman David Otieno while covering protests in Kibera area in Nairobi that erupted following the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of 2017 presidential elections.

The journalist was arrested after police demanded to have a license for the bullet proof vest and helmet he was wearing.

The two were taken to the Kilimani Police Station.

 Khaemba and Otieno were however released after KTN produced licenses for Khaemba's protective gear.

After the incident, police officers blocked other journalists from covering the protests that started on Friday night.

On Friday, police officers were forced to fire gunshots in the air and use teargas to disperse protesters who had lit bonfires in Mathare, Kibera, Kawangware, Korogosho, Dandora areas in Nairobi.

In parts of Kibera, the protests continued until Saturday morning with a contingent of police officers being deployed to calm the situation.

In Kisumu, NASA supporters lit tires to protest the outcome of the presidential elections and police were deployed to man the roads. 

In Siaya town, gunshots were heard as residents protested amid claims that one person was shot dead during the fracas.

Some roads were still blocked in the morning after the overnight protests.
