Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku Duped by County Official

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku on Thursday fired a senior official after discovering that the county employee had defrauded the administration in a tender allocation.

The first term Governor uncovered an elaborate scheme by the sacked official that led to the double allocation of a tender to refurbish the Kitengela Bus Park.

The administrator is said to have forged documents that allowed a private firm to acquire the deal while another company was already on-site carrying out the renovations.

Governor Lenku was forced to make a site visit after both contractors clashed causing the project to stall.

Speaking during the resolution of the conflict, the Kajiado boss accused the sacked official of working with cartels and revealed that he had been involved in fraudulent deals with advertising companies.

Governor Lenku added that the sacked official had defied his directives which amounted to insubordination.

"We have come to clean up the mess created by cartels. The ward administrator was transferred but defied the directive even after his successor was posted to the area. We will not allow impunity," the Governor warned.

Governor Lenku instructed Leacom Limited to resume with the reconstruction of the bus park, setting up of shades, and bringing in outdoor advertisers.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary has faced a number of challenges during his first few months in office including a row with his Makueni and Machakos counterparts over water projects.

His officials were also part of a land row involving a parcel of land occupied by the Tana and Athi River Development Authority (TARDA) where the Kajiado administration sought to reclaim the land over rent arrears.
