Explosion Occurs at UON

An explosion occurred at the University of Nairobi (Main Campus) at the Civil Engineering block on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source within the institution who sought anonymity stated that  the explosion occurred after an unknown device was thrown at the civil engineering block from the Central Police station which is adjacent to the premises.

"It was indeed from the Police station, we do not know what the  officer was doing with the device which is believed to be a flair bomb," he stated.

Reports reaching Kenyans.co.ke also indicate that there are no faculty members and all the students have been evacuated from the building.

He further divlulged that following the incident, Senate members convened a meeting to discuss the incident following speculations that it could be a terrorist attack.

Another official within the campus attributed the incident to the altercation between police and National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters who had camped at the Central Police station.

"I think this is as a result to the chaos at the Central Police station, that is why the institution has been affected," he commented.

The opposition supporters converged at the station earlier Tuesday morning protesting the arrest and detention of Miguna Miguna.

Meanwhile,  Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Mr Nicholas Mutuku on Tuesday told the court that Miguna Miguna is alive and had been charged before Kajiado Law Courts.

Mutuku further stated that there was no need to hold Inspector General Joseph Boinnet and DCI boss George Kinoti in contempt of court.

During the hearing at Milimani Law Courts, Miguna's lawyers, however, demanded he be brought to Milimani Court in Nairobi

The High Court further directed the DPP to appear before court at noon to confirm whether Miguna was indeed charged.

A ruling on contempt of court by IG Boinnet and Kinoti is set to be delivered at 2pm.
