Former Laikipia MP Mathew Lempurkel Re-arrested

Former Member of Parliament (MP), Mathew Lempurkel, has been arrested again, barely a week after he was apprehended over inciteful remarks.

Laikipia County Police Commander, Simon Kipkeu, confirmed his arrest indicating that he was held on suspicion on account that he planned on committing murder.

“We are conducting an investigation on a conspiracy to commit murder where Mr Lempurkel is a suspect. The investigation is ongoing and I am not willing to reveal more on this at this moment," Kipkeu was quoted by Nation.

He will spend the night in cells as detectives prepare to prefer fresh charges against him.

Mr Kipkeu noted that the former lawmaker will be arraigned in court either on Wednesday or Thursday depending on the progress of investigations.

He was arrested on the day a Nanyuki court ruled that he had a case to answer on incitement to violence charges facing him.

Lempurkel, who is not a stranger to police cells, was also arrested a week ago and taken to court over alleged provoking remarks.

He was accused of making remarks which could cause violence while having a meeting with residents.

According to the County Police commander, Lempurkel allegedly incited local communities to turn against each other during a meeting he had convened at Mowarak trading centre.
