93-year-old Man Wants DP William Ruto to Return His Traditional Attire

Deputy President William Ruto has been urged to return a traditional attire belonging to a 93-year-old man from Kapkoi Village in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.

Mr Kimitei Kiplagat told the Standard that his attire, made of black monkey skin, was taken by the Deputy President while on a tour in the region during the last weekend.

According to Kiplagat, he lent his attire to a friend to go perform during a cultural dance in December 2017, however, the friend never returned it to him.

"Every time I asked him to bring back the attire he sent back a report that he was still using the cloth until I learnt that the cloth was taken away by the Deputy President while in the area," expressed Mr Kiplagat.

Kiplagat further divulged that his friend took the attire and together with others, decided to dress the DP while in Eldama Ravine.

Allegedly, Ruto's men took the clothe and kept it in one of the vehicles that the deputy president was using during his trip to the area.

"I thought the man I gave had it, only to realize that it was taken away- they used the cloth to lure the Deputy President to give them money. The cloth was kept inside one of the DP's vehicles and one of my children informed me that he heard a man saying the cloth was taken away," Kiplagat exclaimed.

The old man expressed that he misses his attire and would like to have it back.

Additionally, he noted that the regalia is not to be put on leaders but for specific traditions and especially when the youth undergo rites of passage.

He also disclosed that the cloth is the only one in the area hence the urgent need to have the DP return it to him.
