AG Kihara Directs EACC on How to Handle NYS Scandal Suspects

Attorney General Paul Kihara on Monday directed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to prosecute 'big fish' in the NYS scandal arguing that the action would boost the fight against corruption.

Speaking when EACC chairperson Archbishop (Rtd) Eliud Wabukala, accompanied by other Commissioners, paid him a courtesy call at his chambers, the AG conveyed that prosecuting the powerful people in the scandals would create confidence in the public.

"Wanjiku has every right to demand the immediate prosecution of ‘big fish’, and it is our duty as a government to ensure such people are speedily investigated, prosecuted, and jailed as appropriate.

"It is through this way that Kenyans can appreciate the seriousness with which the government is handling corruption," he stated referring to the big fish as high profile individuals perpetrating corruption in government institutions.

He further called for collaboration between the investigators, prosecutors, and the Judiciary to facilitate speedy and efficient cases.

On his part, Wabukala promised that the institution was keen to resolve the graft cases.

He divulged that the EACC was handling 300 cases daily and they were working to restore public confidence in the commission.

Similarly, President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed to deal firmly and decisively with all unethical people caught in the web of corruption.

Speaking at State House when he presented Kenya High School with a new 51-seater bus and gym equipment, the President, reiterating his anti-graft message, stated that all Kenyans entrusted with responsibility must be ethical and ready to serve with a high sense of morality.

“We are not going to tolerate unethical people. People with responsibility must be ready to serve and not to be served," the Head of State conveyed.

He added that ethics was not about getting big positions of authority in government but how those entrusted with responsibility exercise that authority.
