NTSA Cancels License of Reckless Driver Caught On Video

On Friday, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) canceled the driving license of a reckless driver caught on video along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Through a press release, the authority body revealed that the bus belonged to Rengom company.

The bus with the registration number KCL 414C was being driven by Hillary Shikouko whose license has since been revoked.

NTSA stated that analysis of the vehicle’s speed record revealed several instances of overspeeding against the set speed limit of 80Kph.

According to NTSA, the vehicle will undergo re-inspection to verify the functionality of the speed governor.

The authority body has summoned the Rengom officials to the body’s headquarters.

Other vehicles belonging to the company will also be subjected to the process.

The public was urged to remain vigilant and report such cases through the NTSA free app available on google play.

The action comes after a video went viral showing the reckless behavior of the driver.

A dashboard camera captured a 10 second clip of the bus overlapping dangerously on the wrong side of the road covered in fog

The video caused an uproar by the netizens which called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the driver.

Research revealed that the buses belonging to the company have been involved in such cases in the recent past.

On February 7, 2018, for instance, a Kawere Bus veered off the road and overturned at Awasi injuring 48 passengers.

3 months later, NTV aired a video of a Kawere Connection bus recorded driving recklessly near Limuru, in Kiambu County.

On May 6, 2018, another Kawere bus killed two and injured others along the Kisumu - Muhoroni road after colliding with a lorry.

Earlier on in August 2016, another Kawere Connection bus landed in a ditch near Kangemi along Waiyaki Way although no casualties were reported.
