Egesa FM Radio Presenter Commits Suicide

A radio presenter working for Egesa FM committed suicide in his Nairobi home on Saturday.

Joseph Mochere alias Okebiro O' Mose reportedly committed suicide after domestic wrangles.

In a post that has since been deleted, the deceased's wife, Teresa Moraa stated: "Mtu akisema anajiua na aue watoto utafanyaje advice? (If someone states they will commit suicide and kill the children, what can you do? Please advice?)"

A colleague of the Mochere confirmed his death stating: "Yes, it's true he committed suicide. It was a domestic wrangle that degenerated to the sad incident."

Mochere is popular among local listeners for his comic approach on air.

ODM politician Nyandoro Kambi and his Nyamira Woman Rep Jerusha Momanyi were among leaders who sent their condolences.

Former Nyamira Woman Rep, Alice Chae also sent her condolences terming the death 'unfortunate' and recalled how she nurtured the comedian.

"It is sad that such a talented man has left us. We should always solve some of these problems by seeking guidance. I nurtured him while at Egesa. It's a tragic loss and God will see us through," Chae, also a former presenter stated.

Recent data revealed that the number of suicides reported in Kenya rose by 58 per cent between 2008 and 2017 to reach 421.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that close to 800,000 people commit suicide every year, which means one person every 40 seconds while many more attempt suicide.
