Babu Owino Advises Elachi to Use Dialogue to Retain Her Seat

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday advised Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi on what to do to ensure she keeps her job.

The youthful politician advised Elachi to give dialogue a chance in order to end the feud between her and the Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

Babu further stated that the embattled speaker needs to stop always rushing to court and instead face the problem head on.

"When you are the speaker of a legislative house, you need goodwill from the members and not goodwill from the courts," remarked Babu.

Elachi’s case is set to be determined on Friday after she went to court on September 6 following her impeachment over claims of corruption.

On Tuesday, MCAs elected Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura to replace Elachi on a temporary basis.

Mwaura had been serving as the Majority Chief Whip in the assembly before his election.

The Ngara MCA was voted unopposed in a session that was filled with fights by the representatives.

The Speaker’s name plaque was quickly taken down after the vote and replaced with that one bearing Mwaura’s name.

Assembly sessions were conducted by the Deputy Speaker John Kamangu after Elachi was impeached and later forcefully removed from her office.

The rowdy MCAs had ignored the court directive that granted stay orders to Elachi despite her removal.
