Court Rules to Have Jackie Maribe Detained

TV Journalist Jacque Maribe will be detained for 10 days at Gigiri Police Station to allow a probe into the murder of Monica Kimani, a Kiambu court ruled.

Detectives, however, wanted the journalist to be detained for 14 days pending investigations.

The prosecution made the application, but Maribe through her lawyer Katwa Kigen opposed stating that she was willing to cooperate with investigators.

The judge directed that Maribe is allowed access to advocates and cautioned that she shouldn't be coerced into recording any statement without her lawyer present.

Additionally, the Magistrate ordered that Maribe's safety be guaranteed.

Maribe was arrested Saturday after inconsistencies in her account of events after the murder of Monica Kimani where her fiance' Joseph Irungu alias Joe Jowie, is the main suspect.

Initial reports indicated that Maribe and Jowie told police they were attacked inside their compound by unknown assailants but later changed the account claiming they were attacked outside their house where Irungu was allegedly shot.

It later turned out that Irungu shot himself inside Maribe’s house after which they handed over the firearm to their neighbour Brian Kassaine.

The firearm which sleuths suspect belongs to Kassaine was found hidden in the ceiling of his house with detectives establishing that neither Kassaine nor Irungu were licenced gun holders.

Irungu is the main suspect in the murder of Monica Kimani and he was produced in court last week and detained for 10 more days.
