Journalists Attacked Inside Nyandarua County Assembly

Journalist were on Wednesday brutally attacked in Nyandarua County Assembly after covering leadership wrangles between the MCAs and the House leadership.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the journalists were forcefully ejected from the chambers by the assembly's security team led by serjeants-at-arms.

Reports indicate that serjeants-at-arms were under instructions from the embattled Speaker Wahome Ndegwa, who had been barred from entering the chambers.

The men allegedly rained blows, slapped and clobbered the journalists with Royal Media Services reporter Patris Simbili sustaining injuries on his head.

The MCAs accused the journalists of filing stories without consulting them.

"You must understand that I am the local party boss. I was born in this county.

"You are a stranger in Nyandarua, and I am going to use all means to ensure you are moved from here, Don’t joke with me," the local Jubilee Party boss, Peter Machithi, was quoted threatening a journalist.

Chaos erupted at the assembly on Tuesday forcing Speaker Ndegwa to adjourn the session.

On Wednesday, the MCAs barred Ndegwa from the chambers of the House with a plot to oust him over accusations of failing to recognise their new leaders.
