President Uhuru, DP William Ruto Pay Tribute to Jane Kiano

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have paid special tribute to former Maendeleo ya Wanawake leader Jane Kiano appreciating her service to the nation.

During a Requiem Mass for the deceased, Ruto revealed that during the 2013 General Election, a crucial time of their lives, the late Kiano housed them for seven days.

He further divulged that the respected leader provided them food and full access to the house and compound while they waited for the results to roll in.

“I remember a very special incident in 2013,” stated Mr Ruto, “She gave us her house when we were waiting for the results in 2013. We stayed in her house for almost 7 days.”

“She fed us and she gave us free access in her compound and it was just special,” continued the DP.

He further praised her greatness by noting that she was "a gracious and an elegant lady.”

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was also present at the event, promised to look into recognising women who have made great contributions in the country.

“We need to celebrate them when they are alive, we need to show them that we appreciate what they have done...in our trailblazer program, we will push it and make a day where Kenyans remember the women who have gone on to make a difference,” remarked the President.

The president further revealed that he considered her a mother and a very special sister.

ODM Leader Raila Odinga, speaking at the mass, claimed that him and President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite their prominent lineages, should not be considered royal since they all worked hard to get to where they are.
