CS Amina Makes Final Decision on Students Caught Cheating in KCSE

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has revealed the fate of KCSE candidates who had been deregistered when caught cheating.

Speaking at Hill Secondary School, Eldoret on Tuesday, the CS stated that the KCSE students who have been nabbed over various malpractices will only be allowed to sit the exam after two years.

"The students who were caught cheating have been deregistered and will not sit for the exams this year," she stated.

Addressing the issue of teen pregnancies, the CS assured that the girls would be allowed to continue with their studies uninterrupted.

"All the girls who got children will be allowed to continue with their studies to the level they wish because we also want the children they got to have a good life. Those responsible for getting the girls pregnant will have action taken against them," she declared.

She further defended the heavy deployment of police officers in schools during the examination period explaining that it was not meant to intimidate candidates but to ensure the safety and integrity of the exams.

"I do not see any militarization of the process; we are just using the resources that have always been there. I believe Kenyans are supportive because they are seeing a change. This is what is going to be the norm and we are happy with the progress," she added.

The CS reported that four students had so far been deregistered for cheating accusing adults of facilitating the malpractices among the students.

“No other incident has been reported. We’ve not found students who go out intentionally to pick materials. Most of the work is done by adults who corrupt the young people to do the wrong things. These are the people we are going to deal with," Amina stated.

She further assured, “We want to ensure this exam continues uninterrupted.  We are arresting and prosecuting the culprits really fast. Everybody should be supportive as this is our country."
