A 4-year-long probe into the killing of a former MP's bodyguard and two of his relatives has ended with a Nairobi court slapping two police constables a death sentence.
Justice S. N. Mutuku on Wednesday sentenced to death Kabete police constables Benjamin Kangawa and Stanley Okoti following an investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
The two officers were on October 7, 2014, involved in a shooting incident, killing Constable Joseph Ombogo, attached to former Bomachoge MP, the Joel Onyancha, with two of his relatives.
IPOA, after an independent probe, recommended that the Director of Public Prosecutions proceeds to charge the officers with murder in October 2015.
The officers were consequently charged with the murder of constable Obonyo and two of his relatives, Geoffrey Mogoi and Amos Okenye in a shooting at Kangemi in Nairobi.
"At the time of the shooting, the three deceased persons were alleged to be robbery suspects.
"IPOA concluded investigations and recommended murder charges and on April 24, 2015, the DPP concurred with the IPOA Recommendations," stated IPOA in a statement announcing the full determination of the suit.
