Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s Home Raided Gun Licenses Search

Detectives from Special Crimes Preventions Unit, on Friday, descended on Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s Lavington home in search of gun licenses.

The detectives claimed that the governor had stated, in his police statements, that he was a licensed gun holder.

They, however, did not recover any new licenses in the two-hour raid but promised to carry on with the search in his Migori home.

We’ll spread the search to his rural home where he claims to be keeping the licence,” an officer told The Star.

Three out of the eight guns recovered in an earlier raid in his homes lacked licenses.

The three were recovered in his Migori home but he had claimed that their licenses were in his Lavington home.

The police demanded that all the licenses to guns recovered be scrutinised by the state’s Firearm Licensing Board.

The Governor, who was arrested on Wednesday last week, was released on a cash bail of Kshs200,000 or Kshs500,000 bond.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sleuths on Tuesday raided his homes and office and recovered eight guns together with electronics and several 9mm ammunition.

A family member accompanied the detectives to his house.
