30 KCSE Candidates Skip Court After 'Sex Party' Arrest

A warrant of arrest was on Tuesday issued against 30 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination candidates after they absconded court.

The candidates were arrested on Friday last week in Bomet town as police accused them of engaging in a 'sex party'.

After they failed to show up to take plea on Drunk and Disorderly charges, Bomet Senior Resident Magistrate Kipkirui Kibelion issued the warrant.

The Court further forfeited to the state police bail granted to the candidates on Sunday.

The case will be mentioned on December 6 with the candidates expected in court.

Police arrived at a house in Chepngaina village after neighbours called them complaining over the blaring music.

Four students fled the scene as the rest were arrested, with police finding used condoms and empty liquor bottles around the house.

A woman suspected to have supplied the students with alcohol was also apprehended.

Bomet township chief Reuben Ng'etich claimed some of the students were dancing seductively in pairs when police arrived.

Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso stated that such incidences were responsible for rising teenage pregnancies that have shocked the nation in recent weeks.

"We want to ensure the issues are discussed. The reason we are seeing many girls getting pregnant is because little is heard about the topic,” she asserted.
