EACC Nominates Twalib Mbarak as New CEO

The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission has nominated a new CEO to replace Halakhe Waqo whose term is ending.

Waqo took office in January 2013, when EACC replaced the now defunct Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission.

The anti-graft agency picked ex-military intelligence officer Twalib Abdallah Mbarak to be the new CEO.

He beat 13 candidates who had applied for the position including Michael Mubea, who is the deputy EACC chief executive.

Others who were shortlisted for interviews were Sarah Kilemi, National Police Service Commission board official Murshid Mohamed, James Warui, Vincent Omari, Jillo Kasse, Chege Thenya, Reuben Chirchir, Cyrus Oguna, Abdi Mohamud, Joel Mabonga and Lucy Wanja.

Mbarak's name will be forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval.

The newly nominated CEO is currently the Security and Integrity Manager at the power generating firm KENGEN.

EACC chief executive post is a one term, non-renewable contract of six years.

Qualifications for the post include a post-graduate degree from a recognised university, and clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

One must also have accreditation from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
