EACC to Arrest Kabete Post Police Officers for Rescuing Their Colleagues

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday turned its gaze towards Kabete Police post demanding that Directorate of Criminal Investigations from the station be arrested.

Officers from the post had on Wednesday fired after EACC detectives took two of their colleagues, Julius Oguma and Constable Charles Macharia into custody for taking bribes.

The fire exchange then resulted in the escape of the two officers who made away with Kshs 100,000 bribe they had extorted from a foreigner.

EACC demanded that police from the post be charged with obstruction of justice.

The commission is now at loggerheads with the DCI where the officers are attached. EACC wanted the Directorate to release the suspects to face the full force of the law.

No arrests of either the suspects or the post’s officers have been made.

Kenyans.co.ke earlier reported that the commission had laid a trap operation in which they nabbed the two officers who they claimed had demanded Kshs1 million bribe.

"The two suspects Mr. Julius Oguma Service No. 79715 and PC Charles Macharia Service No. 95924 are DCI officers were arrested by EACC officers and handcuffed," EACC stated.

We are sure the DCI will also go after the other officers and they will be charged with obstructing justice,” EACC spokesperson told the Star.

Earlier that day, 15 police officers had been arrested after they were found in possession of Kshs11,000 bribes in Kwale County.
