Keriako Tobiko Emerged Top Candidate in High School

President Uhuru Kenyatta's Cabinet consists of technocrats and former politicians from various backgrounds but one of them stands out because of his performance in school.

In 1984, Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko emerged the best student in his high school and among the top nationally.

He started his elementary education in Mashuru Primary School and went ahead to join Athi River Secondary School for his O level.

He proceeded to Kanyakine High School in Meru where he sat for the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE), an A-level exam done at the end of Form 6 during those days.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke about his academic excellence he revealed that he scored As in all his subjects and was awarded the Gandhi Smarak Award

The Gandhi Smarak Award earned him a scholarship at the University of Nairobi where he attained a Bachelors Degree in Law.

He went on to study for his Master's Law Degree at the University of Cambridge after he won a Barclays Cambridge Commonwealth scholarship.

His first joined government when he was appointed to the Njonjo Land Commission of Inquiry into the Land Law Systems in Kenya, where he served from 1999 to 2002.

From 2000 to 2005, he was a commissioner in the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC).

In March 2010, he was appointed by the then Attorney General Githu Muigai as the National contact person between the International Criminal Court and Kenya.

One year later, he was appointed as the Director of Public Prosecutions and teamed up with the AG to represent the government in the proceedings before the ICC in relation to the 2007/08 Post Election Violence in the country.

He resigned as DPP in 2018 when President Kenyatta appointed him to join his cabinet to head the Environment Ministry.
