Several officials at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) were arrested on Wednesday, following an investigation pertaining to the registration of a vehicle that was used by terrorists during the terror attack on 14 Riverside drive.
A car bearing the registration number KCN 340 E was used by terrorists during the DusitD2 attack on January 15th, 2019.
Further inquiry into the matter took a bizarre turn when the officers discovered that a car of the same model bearing the same registration number had been impounded in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) cordoned off the NTSA headquarters in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area, following the Wednesday morning raid.
The ATPU officers turned away members of the public who had turned up for services, as they grilled the NTSA officials within the premises.
Several computers and laptops were confiscated to aid with identifying the individuals who handled the peculiar vehicle registration.
Augustine Mulwa Musembi is one of NTSA officials who was taken in custody after he was implicated in the registration process of the car in question.
Several officials were also driven off the premises in unmarked vehicles for further questioning.
Scores of civilians braved the scorching sun outside the Upper Hill office in hopes of finally getting served but the premises remained closed for the rest of the day.
There has been no official press release by the NTSA officials yet concerning the raid.
