The government, through Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), on Thursday, temporarily closed a section of Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
According to reports, the highway was shut down at Kibwezi area after stray elephants invaded it thereby impeding transport.
KWS officers, however, moved in swiftly and were seen working towards herding the stray elephants back to Chyulu National Park where they had reportedly escaped from.
The officers commissioned a chopper to help in aiding the exercise.
According to locals, the elephants, suspected to be two in number, had invaded the farms at Manyanga area.
The officers, therefore, closed the road to stop motorists from hitting the endangered animals.
This comes months after two other elephants escaped Aberdare Forest and invaded Kanyenyaini village in Kangema, Murang’a County.
In May 2018, the elephants caused a scene in the village after they charged angrily at the crowds forcing them to flee for dear life.
This forced the officers to fire in the air in order to disengage the animals and prevent them from attacking the residents.
The Rangers, however, had a difficult time controlling the scene, especially the crowd, who had gathered to see the animals.
