Broke Italian Firm Probed for Bribing 3 CSs Flees With Ksh15B

A broke Italian firm accused of bribing three Kenyan Cabinet Secretaries has reportedly exited the country with a breathtaking Ksh15 Billion deposit.

Co-operativa Muratoi Cementisti Di Ravenna (CMC Ravenna), which was overseeing three separate projects valued at Ksh91 Billion, reportedly left hydro-power and drinking water projects in Nakuru and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

According to a report by The Standard, the firm had received Ksh15 Billion as a down payment for the projects from which the kickbacks used to bribe the CSs were reportedly drawn from.

The revelation came a week after the controversial company was kicked out of two other projects it had been contracted to undertake in Nepal last year.

The firm was booted out of the South East Asian nation because it could not raise funds for the development of the two projects; a drinking water and a hydro-power plant.

The exit of the firm has already sparked fears in Kenya since the contracts would have to be re-awarded to other companies, therefore, costing taxpayers more.

On February 7, 2019, Kenyans.co.ke the firm stalled another Ksh38 Billion mega-development project of the Itare dam in Kuresoi, Nakuru County.

The contracted company indicated that it no longer had the capacity to continue undertaking the huge development project from the beginning of 2019.

The Italian construction firm had completed 49 per cent of the project by the time it filed for bankruptcy.

Apart from the Kuresoi project, the two others, in Nakuru and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, had received a down payment of Ksh4.9 Billion but no work had commenced yet.
