Attorney General Sued for Disappearance of Chinese Nationals

A lawyer, Brian Angwenyi, on Friday sued Attorney General (AG) Paul Kihara, DPP Noordin Haji and Inspector General (IG) Joseph Boinnet for the alleged disappearance of five Chinese nationals under mysterious circumstances.

The Chinese nationals went missing after being arrested on February 15, 2019, by Immigration officers.

The lawyer claimed that they were arrested on Ngong Road. In a sworn affidavit, Angwenyi listed the three as the respondents in this case.

The Chinese have reportedly not been seen since their arrest according to the petitioner.

Gang Shao, Xiaoying Qin, Yang Ting Ting, Li Kangzi and Nan Yangyang were taken to Nyayo House and later to immigration officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) but have been missing since then.

Angwenyi communicated that the five had their passports confiscated and that they were being held without any reason.

He further stated that the immigration officers refused to divulge information about their arrest and their whereabouts.

The complainant added that families of the five are worried and have sleepless nights, insisting that the Chinese were in the country legally.

In the court papers, he indicates that they have searched for the missing persons in hospitals, morgues and police stations in vain.

Chinese nationals have severally found themselves on the wrong side of the law with some even being deported after claims of being in Kenya illegally and for racism.
