Blunder Made Ruto Run 11 Extra Kilometers at Beyond Zero Half Marathon

Deputy President William Ruto has revealed the mistake that made him run 21km at First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's Beyond Zero Marathon in 2016.

He was narrating his 2016 experience at the finish line of the 2019 edition of the event after completing 21km yet again.

An out of breath DP stated that this year, he ran the full distance on purpose as opposed to the last event.

He narrated that in 2016, he had intended to only take part in the 10km run but missed a turn and therefore, ended up on the 21km route.

Speaking on the 2019 event, the DP was proud that he had run all the way without resting or walking.

Ruto completed the marathon, clocking a time of 2:4:12 which was his personal best record.

Other high profile guests that participated include Central Bank Governor Patrick Njoroge and Amina Mohamed, the new Sports Cabinet Secretary, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

The First Lady, who took part in the 10km race and finished, was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the finish line.

Uhuru, in his speech, stated that henceforth, all national teams would be fully funded by the government.

"I want to assure you that all our national teams will be fully sponsored by the government this year," the president affirmed.
