Raila to Earn Ksh8.8M & 3 Luxurious Cars in New Pay Package

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is set to pocket a lavish sum of Ksh8.8 million alongside some other perks such as personal workers and three luxurious cars.

Business Daily reported that the Treasury had already set aside a Ksh1.5 Billion kitty to cater for the needs of retired heads of offices including presidents, their deputies, speakers among others.

In the new set up, the former prime minister will earn a lump sum of Ksh8.835 million translating to a monthly salary of Ksh589,000. The premier will also walk away with a fuel allowance of Ksh108,000, several personal workers.

The cars include two saloons and a four-wheel drive while workers are an accountant, two drivers, two cooks, two secretaries and security guards. Raila also walks away with a medical cover.

"We created the new budget line to accommodate retired offices under the Deputy President Retirement Law," the paper quoted a source from the government.

The new pay is a significant rise from a Ksh200,000 monthly pension he pocketed after serving multiple terms as the Member of Parliament for Lang'ata.

Other people whose pension had been blackballed by the state and are expected to benefit include former Vice Presidents Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi.

Kalonzo will also pocket a monthly salary of Ksh589,000 matching that of the former prime minister with workers, a medical cover and fuel allowance to boot.

Budget documents tabled in parliament showed that the Ksh1.5 kitty was labeled "Retired Presidents" and that it was being introduced for the first time.

In 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta failed to approve the hefty parks for the two arguing that they were still involved in active politics.
