Bird Forces Mombasa-Bound Plane to Make Emergency Landing

A Kenyan plane that was headed to Mombasa from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi has made an emergency landing.

According to Citizen Digital, the plane was hit by a bird which caused an engine glitch.

It is at this point that the pilot decided to head back to the airport.

The plane, which was expected to land at Mombasa at 10:56 am, was ferrying passengers whose number was not immediately established.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

"We are glad to report that all the 87 passengers and five crew on board are safe," the airline stated.

The airline later apologised for the mistake and redistributed the passengers to other planes.

In a similar incident, a Turkish Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Moi International Airport in Mombasa in 2017 after developing a mechanical problem.

The airline had spent more than two hours hovering in the air after it hit a bird which forced it to land.

All the passengers were evacuated safely.
