Kalonzo Goes for Uhuru's Turf After Waiguru's Declaration

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is reportedly angling for Mount Kenya votes days after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Kamotho declared that the region was open to backing ODM leader Raila Odinga for the top seat in 2022.

According to reports by The Star, Musyoka is fully determined to make inroads in the populous Mt Kenya region and indicated that his party would soon open an office there.

Speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi when he hosted party officials from Central Kenya, Kalonzo stated that Wiper Party was in the process of holding grassroots elections.

He added that the party would hold a series of rallies in Central to drum up support for the party, but was quick to point out that he was not in a campaign mode.

.

“We will very soon open an office in Kenol and then address a rally there before moving deeper into other areas. We will move to all corners of the country to build structures at the grassroots,” he explained.

Kalonzo further stated that he will use his record of uprightness to penetrate the Jubilee stronghold.

“We will not be Mr Money Bags when we go to Central Kenya to ask people to support us. People should shun ill-gotten wealth,” he declared.

On August 14, speaking in an interview on KTN, Waiguru claimed that the populous Mt Kenya region was open to forming a political alliance with Raila ahead of the 2022 elections.

“Whether it is Raila or someone else, the presidential candidates must know Mt Kenya needs representation at the top. At the moment, it would be preemptive. We are open and are uniting,” she stated.

Waiguru insisted that in the meantime, she will continue to position herself as the voice of Mt Kenya region ready to take the mantle of leadership if considered in 2022.
