Sonko Recounts How Uhuru Saved Him From Planned Murder [VIDEO]

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is well known for his exploits, especially pertaining to land grabbers and those he considers to be oppressing the less fortunate in Nairobi.

His work has, however, not been so rosy as he narrated in his appearance on Point Blank with Tony Gachoka on KTN News on Wednesday, October 24.

He recounted responding to distress calls by residents of Loresho in 2015 when he was serving as the Nairobi Senator.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and members of the public responding to claims of grabbed land in Loresho, Nairobi on December 18, 2015. He told Tony Gachoka that he barely escaped with his life after militia charged with guarding the land attacked him.

The locals were alleging that a private developer had grabbed the area's water reservoir land and was building a mall on it.

"I personally took to investigating the case, and soon, a senior officer from the previous Nairobi County Government came to me and offered to pay me to shut up, but I set a trap for him and he was arrested by EACC," he told Gachoka.

He further narrated that after the arrest, EACC officers went to the site of the contested land, only to be chased away by the grabbers who had allegedly hired Maasai militia with arrows to guard the property.

"Judith Shamalla (Senior Attorney at Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission) was a member of the EACC unit then, and I believe she is still there till today. She came to me and told me that they had almost been killed at the scene of the grabbed land and asked me to intervene," he recounted.

Sonko further stated that he went to the scene soon after, only to be accosted by the same militia who shot arrows in his direction, forcing him to flee.

"There were almost a hundred warriors armed with bows and machetes and I had only four bodyguards with me. I stood no chance," he explained.

He explained that he called the president immediately he left the scene and informed him that he had almost lost his life over grabbed land, and asked for his intervention stating that the matter was spiralling out of control.

"I had no confidence in the direction the country was headed if that was how things were on the ground. This investor could have poisoned the entire reservoir and taken the lives of over 2 million Nairobi residents who depend on the source," he narrated.
