Jubilee Kibra Candidate McDonald Mariga on Thursday, November 7 conceded an early defeat.

In a video that went viral on social media, the former footballer called his opponent, ODM candidate Bernard Imran Okoth to congratulate him on the early lead.

"Hello boss, this is Mariga, I have called to congratulate you. The race has been fair and I am ready to support you in whatever you need," admitted Mariga in the phone call.

A calm Imran was also not hesitant  to accept the early victory as he agreed to work with Mariga and uphold their friendship.

"I'm humbled to have received a congratulatory call from Mariga. That’s the spirit of politics. I promise to move forward with every interested party for the good of our people. God bless Kibra," read a Twitter post by Imran.

Earlier in the day, Imran who addressed the press express confidence that he would win the polls.

This comes after the day was marred with various scuffles with the most outstanding one being his opponent Mariga chased out of one of the polling stations in Kibra and two other individuals arrested after they were caught red-handed bribing voters.

Kibra constituency has more than 118,658 registered voters in its five wards.

The wards Makina, Laini Saba, Sarang’ombe, Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course and Lindi that have 25,695, 17,455, 30,754, 28,066 and 16,688 respectively.

During the by-election Kibra was figuratively referred to as the ODM's bedroom owing to party leader Raila Odinga's 25-year tenure as the Member of Parliament for Lang'ata constituency 25 years, the constituency from which Kibra was created.
