On Friday, November 8, Imran Okoth was announced as the winner of the Kibra by-election in what was a hotly contested poll.
ODM Party's brigade campaigned in the constituency declaring that Kibra was Raila's bedroom, a term which caught on among the residents, their political allies and competitors alike. It was coined because Odinga had represented the area in Parliament for over 20 years when he was the Lang'ata MP.
The Kenyan newspapers also jumped on the wave by creatively titling their front-page stories along the same lines.
The Standard went with a bold declaration of, Raila Locks Ruto Out of Bedroom.
People's Daily titled their front-page news item as Raila Secures Kibra Bedroom from Raila.
On social media, the hashtag #BedroomSecured trended on Twitter for the better part of the morning, as leaders sent their congratulatory messages to the Kibra MP-elect.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna stated, "Congratulations Imran, MP-elect Kibra Constituency. Your political journey is quite a story bro. May the good Lord guide you as you serve your people."
On Thursday, November 8, after casting his vote in Old Kibra Primary School, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga asked voters in Kibra to protect their votes in the by-election.
"We are in our bedroom and I want to ask our people to protect our bedroom against infiltrators and outsiders," Raila stated.
According to results announced by IEBC on Friday, November 8, Imran Okoth garnered 24,636 votes beating Mariga who managed 11,230 votes, a difference of 13,406 votes.
Flanked by ODM's Chief Campaigner and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Imran was handed his certificate by the IEBC Returning Officer Beatrice Saki.
Speaking after the announcement, Junet stated, "What does one man want in another man's bedroom?"
