President Uhuru Kenyatta met Melinda Gates, the wife of one of the richest people in the world, Bill Gates, at State House Nairobi and held talks with her over critical issues affecting Kenyans.
On Tuesday, November 12, Melinda of the philanthropic organization Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation applauded the president for his commitment to improving health care in the country.
In a press release sent to newsrooms by State House, Melinda expressed hope that Kenya's Universal Health Coverage programme, would ensure a majority of citizens get access to quality health care services.
"We are looking forward to working with Kenya especially in the betterment of the lives of young people," she assured.
“Delivering healthcare services has been a journey for our nation.
"Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we don’t but we are working with the governors and we know 10 years from now, Kenya will have succeeded in the Universal Healthcare Programme,” the president told Melinda.
She also lauded Kenya for hosting the ongoing the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Nairobi, adding that the forum provides stakeholders with a progressive platform to engage constructively, with a view of fashioning solutions to challenges facing the society especially vulnerable women and girls.
Kenyatta highlighted the country's willingness to partner with all people of goodwill in providing services that improve the wellbeing of citizens.
"I believe that we need to bring all things to the table and agree to disagree. We don’t have to agree on all things. Those we agree on, we will do,” the president remarked, adding that his administration was implementing the competency-based curriculum in order to develop learners' abilities to apply appropriate skills needed to solve real-life challenges.
