Lee Omondi, a friend of the late Monica Kimani and one of the witnesses in the murder case, on Tuesday, November 19, alleged that Joseph Irungu alias Jowie was the last person left with her.
Omondi told the court that he left the deceased in the company of Jowie at her Lamuria Gardens Apartments, on the fateful night as The Standard reported.
Further, he stated that Jowie introduced himself as a security person working with Interpol and at the Office of The President.
“Joe is the one I left at Monica’s place the night she was killed. He even offered to get me a firearm,” the court heard.
He was testifying in the murder trial of Jowie and former Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe.
Omondi, a businessman dealing in motor vehicle insurance recalled that he met Monica in 2015 in Juba, South Sudan, where they both worked.
The court heard that on September 19, 2018, the two communicated after Monica arrived back in Kenya from Juba and visited her house for business.
“I called her at around 8.30pm and informed her it was late, and asked if I could pick the documents the following day. She insisted I should go to her house that night because she would be travelling to Dubai the next day,” Omondi testified.
Jowie and Maribe are the prime suspects in the murder case of Ms Kimani, a businesswoman who was found dead at her home on September 20, 2018.
On October 18, 2019, Maribe was released on a cash bail of Ksh1 million or a bond of Ksh2 million.
On the other hand, Jowie was denied bail by Justice James Wakiaga who termed him as a flight risk and that witnesses would be scared of testifying against someone who could access a gun when freed.
