Raila, Uhuru Invited to Exclusive US Event

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have received exclusive invites to the 2020 National Prayer Breakfast in the US.

Reports from the Daily Nation on Sunday, January 26, 2020, indicated that the two leaders were invited to the event slated for February 5 and 6, 2020.

The two would be required to give an address a day before, during a connected event referred to as the International Lunch, where they are expected to talk about the handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative.

The publication further indicated that in the invite, US Congress National Breakfast Co-chairs John Moolenaar and Thomas Suozzi asked Kenyatta and Odinga to be the joint keynote speakers for the lunch.

"As the keynote speakers for the Lunch, we would like to ask you to share your personal journey of faith and reconciliation," the invite read.

According to the American Guest House, where many high profile guests spend the night, the event is hosted by members of the United States Congress and is an invite-only affair attended by elite individuals in politics, society, and business.

"The prestigious two-day event is more than just breakfast. It includes a day full of meetings and forums punctuated by lunch and dinner. Over 100 countries are represented among the 3,500 attendees," the hotel's website reads.

The Building Bridges Initiative has attracted considerable attention the world over, with many of the leaders hailing it as promising.

In December 2019, the United States government announced its support for the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report to ensure unity before the 2020 General Election.

“The United States is a great friend of Kenya and although I do not agree with all details in the BBI, the USA fully supports it for Kenya to remain a united country," US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter stated while on tour in Nandi County.
